How To Remove Chalkboard Paint (Chalkboard Paint)

Chalkboard Paint

There is in fact a thing called chalkboard paint that you apply and it renews the surface of certain kinds of chalk boards. If your chalkboard is truly a slate, you'll need to clean the surface as you would any other slate surface (for that specific application, I'd recommend a "Magic Eraser" available in your cleaning products aisle.)

Once you have what you want on the board, if you are talking about a slate, I'm not sure what you would do to fix the chalk. That could be difficult.

If you are talking about a painted chalkboard, you should be able to varnish it. I suggest a spray varnish in order to not disturb the chalk, and apply it in extremely light coats until you get the desired amount of coverage. Use a matte spray or it will not look good.

Also, you need to be aware that attempting to bond any chalk to the board may ultimately be unsuccessful because the chalk may not adhere well even with varnish.

You may be better off to find markers that look a little bit like chalk, and write directly on the painted surface. I don't think this method would work with a slate, or might provide less than desirable results.
