How to Spray Chalkboard Paint?

Chalkboard Paint

Spray painting on a chalkboard can ad loads of style to your kitchen, learning possiblities to your child's bedroom and so much more.

Instruction:

Step 1
Decide where you want to spray your chalkboard paint. Measure with a level and decide on the dimensions. Use painters tape or masking tape to outline your chalkboard. I used newspaper to cover about 4 feet of surrounding wall area because the spray paint doesn't just stay in the taped off area, particles will fly! Since I made my chalkboard in the kitchen, I also covered everything else in the kitchen up with sheets, etc. The fine dust particles wash very easily, however, you do not want to breathe any of this. Make sure you have covered everything well in the area, ventilation is adequate and children and pets are not around.

Step 2
Once you have prepared properly you can begin spraying the chalkboard spray paint. To spray and get a nice even coat, you will want to keep a 10" distance and keep your hand moving in a sweeping motion side to side. If you need a second coat you need to spray right away or within the hour.

Step 3
The paint will dry to the touch pretty quickly, within 30 minutes. Do not write with chalk on the new chalkboard for at least 24-48 hours.

Kids Room Chalkboard Paint For Kids Of All Ages!

Chalkboard Paint

So how does it work?
Basically a kids room chalkboard paint is a latex paint that you simple brush on as you would paint any wall. Most types of chalkboard paint can be used on wood, glass, metal, plastic, plaster walls, drywall, paneling, concrete floors and more. This special Chalkboard Paint will turn just about any surface into a "real chalkboard".

If you don't want to brush on the chalkboard paint or just have a small area you want to turn into a usable chalkboard then simply purchase the chalkboard spray paint.

And a great thing about chalkboard paint is that it's made with hard pigments so kids won't leave scratch marks when using the chalk on the wall.

It's easy to write on the walls with chalk and easy to erase too. Simply use a sponge with water to wipe clean and start drawing again from scratch!

Even A Choice Of Colors
Not a large selection but you have your choice of green, black, white and if you don't really want those colors then you can mix various shades to come up with more colors. Sometimes it easier to lay down a chalkboard paint foundation color like black first and then paint white chalkboard paint over it to get various shades of gray.

So have fun, use your imagination on coming up with a great area to use a kids room chalkboard paint. Then sit back and watch your kids imagination expand as they make wonderful works of art on their own bedroom walls.

Adding a Kids Room Chalk Board Paint to the walls in your kids favorite room is another GREAT KIDS GAME ROOM DECORATING IDEA.

Colored Chalkboard Paint Wall (Chalkboard Paint)

Chalkboard Paint

Here is a fun idea for a child's room, a home school room or even a family room or kitchen. You turn create a wall, a door or a piece of furniture into a chalkboard. And unlike the traditional black chalkboard wall, you can do this with a color. Using a colored chalkboard wall is creative, fun and won't change your color scheme. In fact, you won't be able to tell the difference between a "normal" wall and your chalkboard wall, until you start writing on it! Kids will be delighted that they are being allowed to doodle, draw and write on a real wall.

To create your colored chalkboard wall, you'll need the following items:

  • Paint in your choice of color. Any indoor paint will do, as long as it has a satin finish.
  • White unsanded tile grout
  • A paint stick to stir the paint
  • A brush to apply the paint
  • Painters tape to section off a wall or area for your chalkboard.

To make your custom colored chalkboard paint, first open and stir your colored satin paint with the paint stick. Next, mix up the paint with the unsanded tile grout. The formula for the mix is one cup of paint to two tablespoons of the unsanded tile grout. Mix as much as you will need for your project. If the paint becomes too thick, making it difficult to apply, add water one tablespoon at a time and remix the paint.

Apply your custom colored chalkboard paint to your wall, door or other project. Allow the paint to dry. Paint a second coat of the paint as needed.

To clean the chalk from the wall once it is in use, just use a chalkboard eraser or damp sponge.

Try using more than one color to create a fun pattern, a mural, a favorite character and more. A cute idea is to create an array of colored "crayons" on the wall, all in different colors.

How To Remove Chalkboard Paint (Chalkboard Paint)

Chalkboard Paint

There is in fact a thing called chalkboard paint that you apply and it renews the surface of certain kinds of chalk boards. If your chalkboard is truly a slate, you'll need to clean the surface as you would any other slate surface (for that specific application, I'd recommend a "Magic Eraser" available in your cleaning products aisle.)

Once you have what you want on the board, if you are talking about a slate, I'm not sure what you would do to fix the chalk. That could be difficult.

If you are talking about a painted chalkboard, you should be able to varnish it. I suggest a spray varnish in order to not disturb the chalk, and apply it in extremely light coats until you get the desired amount of coverage. Use a matte spray or it will not look good.

Also, you need to be aware that attempting to bond any chalk to the board may ultimately be unsuccessful because the chalk may not adhere well even with varnish.

You may be better off to find markers that look a little bit like chalk, and write directly on the painted surface. I don't think this method would work with a slate, or might provide less than desirable results.

How to Paint a Chalkboard (Chalkboard Paint)

Chalkboard paint

Chalkboard paint has many uses, and you'll find it handy for more than you think! A chalkboard makes a great gift for a child, and can also be handy in the kitchen. Instead of buying one that will have to be mounted, or takes up a lot of room if it is free-standing, try chalkboard paint.

A great idea for a child's bedroom wall is to paint a chalkboard there. This is easy to do, and fun for the child. Chalkboard paint is widely available at paint and hardware stores, and comes in green or black, spray paint or canned. A few coats of this paint will create a fun chalkboard surface on the wall that children can write on with chalk, and will wash off easily. If you affix a wood frame around it, you have a great looking instant chalkboard. Plus, the chalk can be stored on the ridge around the frame. Chalkboards are great for kids to do art, practice reading or spelling, or even play games like hangman. Parents can help their children with learning shapes, colors, math and reading skills by writing on the chalkboard. They are also fun for parents to use for writing reminders to the children, or drawing funny pictures to make them laugh.

Chalkboard paint is also good for many other surfaces, also. Try painting a small rectangle of chalkboard paint on a kitchen cabinet or portion of the wall near the phone in the kitchen. You will have an instant message board, or a place for writing shopping lists.

You can also use it on toy boxes made of wood. Try painting the lid of a wooden box with the paint, and putting the chalk in a box inside. The children will have a great time decorating the top of the box, and will have a place to store the chalk right there. This is something that can be used in the bedroom or playroom.

Another idea is to paint the top of a small table with it. The table is then more than just a workspace for a child, but it is also something a child could decorate! There are even chalkboard paints and primers that have metal dust incorporated into them, rendering whatever you paint magnetic. So, you have the option of making a magnetic board for the kitchen, or a magnetic chalkboard surface which can be even more useful and fun for whatever you are painting.

If you are looking for a gift idea for a child, or a way to improve your home, try making a chalkboard out of an ordinary surface. It will add fun and convenience to whatever you use it for!

Applying Chalkboard Paint (Chalkboard Paint)

Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboard paint is really an excellent way to spruce up an unused wall in your home, give kids a place to play, breathe new life into old furniture or accessories or just add a little visual interest.

I you’re looking to apply chalkboard paint to anything you’ll need to clean the surface first. You may even have to sand the surface as you want the smoothest surface possible. If the object has never been painted before or you’re changing the color it’s a good idea to use a traditional primer first and have it tinted to match the chalkboard paint color. Chalkboard paint can’t really be “worked” or it loses its effectiveness, so having a nice even coat of primer is helpful. Also, chalkboard paint is fairly expensive so you’re better off priming with a traditional primer which is less costly.

Once you’ve primed and your surface is dry you’ll want to apply the chalkboard paint. The manufacturer recommends a ¼ to 3/8 inch nap roller. This should work in most situations. Apply smoothly and evenly in as few strokes as possible. Let paint fully dry for at least four hours before applying any additional coats.

Once you’re done painting let the surface cure for at least three days and then season it by rubbing a chalk all over the entire surface and erase it. There is a thin coat of chalk that will remain which will make future chalk applications and erasing work better.
